Well it’s Saturday and time for the great meme, 6 on Saturday! The last couple of weeks of rain (many thanks to the kids breaking up, we needed this rain!) the gardens have changed from dust beds back into our lush normal English gardens. It’s made it easy to get my 6 on Saturday this week!
Echinacea purpurea ‘Magnus’ I love echinacea, some forms are a little busy for me, but Magnus is prefect for my garden, love the large mixed colour flowers and that the bees really love this plant tooGaura lindheimeri ‘Passionate Blush’ oh I love Gauras and have a couple in my garden, I do love this form, bred by Steve Eggleton, New Zealand. I just love the purple tinged foliage and then the flowers that appear in May and disappear once it’s frosted, this form is a little more compact than most forms and is prefect in my narrow front bordersAgastache ‘Blackadder’ oh I love my giant Hyssop, it’s dark flowers makes a great foil to other plants as well as giving me a little height in the borders, the bees and butterflies also love it as much as I do! The foliage is also delightfully scentedGeranium wlassovianum ‘Lakwijk Star’ another new plant for me, I love wlassovianum anyway, I find it such a great performer in gardens, the foliage is so attractive appearing in the spring, followed by a summer of flowers ended with a great display of autumn colour on the foliage, can’t wait to see this plant maturePennisetum glaucum ‘Purple Majesty’ or purple millet, was one plant I have seen used so well in summer pot displays and always wanted to try it at home, managed to get hold of a plant this year and really loving the effect it is having near my front door, it’s giving me the height and stunning colour I wanted!Salvia ‘Love and Wishes’ again another group of plants I love, (tbh there’s not many I don’t like!) love and wishes is a plant I saw being used to great effect at Sir Harold Hillier gardens last summer and saw it in the garden centre a moth ago and brought it, just starting to flower now and can’t wait to see it covered in flowers

Morning Mr T. Lovely six. I bought a gaura the other week, good size plant for a few quid, much reduced. I think it is “Passionate Pink’. Something passionate anyway. I’ve taken cuttings so hopefully by next year I’ll have a good clump of them. Anyway, glad you like it, that’s a good recommendation!
A very tasty sextet there; the Geranium has been added to my shopping list. I always shy away from the likes of Echinacea and Gaura as being unlikely to thrive in Cornish conditions, but I haven’t actually tried them.
Thank you Jim 😀 could be worth trying some of the tougher echinacea like Magnus, they are the tougher forms and may like it down there 😀gaura agree would struggle unless on a poor soil on a slope, the straight form may be better as that will be friendly and self seed everywhere if the main plant dies
The Love and Wishes Salvia – can we cut it back to get more blooms? I am loathe to shorten the spent stems in case it doesn’t come again. What do you think?
You’re really being kind to me, Thomas! Echinacea, Gaura, Penisetum, Agastache would all go on my wishlist were it not for the fact that I’ve tried and failed. They don’t like my clay soil over winter. I’m not tempted by more geraniums at the mo, just keeping a space for your Granddad. Be careful with Love and Wishes. The place I bought it from told me it was hardy and ok in clay. The three I bought last year didn’t reappear this year, despite being in a part of the garden into which I’d dug my cloggy-clay-reducing mix (other things in that area survived ok as did “Hot Lips” which, I was told, is actually less hardy).
I did say I would try my best John 😀 they they all prefer the lighter soils don’t they, my grandad is progressing well at the moment, hoping to propagate from it soon and have many more of my grandad about 😀
I will do, I have it in a pot for this year, I think it may go to the garage for the winter and see if I can get it though down here, I know down the road at hilliers they treat theirs as an annual, funny enough found hot lips rather hardy pretty tough plant for a salvia

Yes indeed you can 😀 I tend to spent bloom remove on mine and it’s reflowering very well and it helps it become a bushier plant so I would go for it 😀
