Well I haven’t featured any water plants yet and I think if this rain carries on much longer, I shall be ripping up all my plants and replacing them with Canadian pond weed and water lilies. It’s just be a horrendous week hasn’t, been rained off twice and still not got my paper work done, keep getting distracted trying to stop the kids kill each other and waiting on them. But that’s life in the fast lane or what couples as the fast lane at my time in life.
This weather has really effected the garden, the soil hasn’t really warmed up yet and nothing is growing as mad as it was last year. I was reading though my old blogs from a year ago, finding ones like rose watch, with rose buds a good size all ready, this year they haven’t even got any new leaves on yet this year! But that’s the fun thing about gardening isn’t, every day, week, month and year is different and so unpredictable.
Talking about unpredictability here’s my six on Saturday all from my own garden!
A lovely Hyacinth, can’t remember the name and I know it’s in a box in the garage but it’s raining and that would mean going outside and getting wet, still is a great colour and looks great in my containers in my front garden
A slight negative now, I was so looking forward to seeing my tulip polychroma in full flower, looking stunning in the sun, it’s one of my favourite specie tulip, um then we had the snow and it well killed off the flowers and they have failed to open, gutted but there’s always next year!
One of the few plants I have left from when we moved in, actually it was one of the few plants in the garden at the time, looks great this time of year, but is under a window and it covers the window in a few weeks during the summer. I want to take it out but the sparrows love it for some reason and I cant bring myself to remove it
My tulips are appearing! Just love the buds full stop, so full of promise and a hint of the pleasure they will bring. Have planted a few forms in the garden this year, can’t wait to see them appearing this year
Geranium wlassovianum ‘Lakwijk Star’ just love the new leaves on this plant! The shades of red on the leaf is amazing and the usefulness of the plant is again brilliant, it has something going for it all summer.
Wel I think she has nearly made it, my Geranium traversii elgans, looking a little more battle scared after the last cold spell, but never less still looks alive. Phew! Can’t wait for it to get flowering again!

I think you are right Fred, really struggled this week, the rain is dampening the garden and moods, losing 2 days work also meant I missed out on two great gardens I plunder for the 6 as well , need to buy more plants to fill in this gap, not that I did that last night online 😂
but the forsythia is the coolest! ‘Some of us’ rarely get to see one. I work with two now, but they are rare here.

It’s a cracker, only young leaves look like that but is an undervalued plant
There was great delight with the 7mm of rain we had on Thursday night and yesterday morning but when I was planting out a few Calendulas, I saw that only the top part was damp – it’s so dry that the water just sits on top of the soil. We need so much more soaking rain.
Lol could send you some of ours Ann, it’s been non stop since Wednesday morning, with a drier day forecast tomorrow and then heavy for the next few days, even on pretty free draining soil, it’s sitting on top now. I hope you get some soon though👍
I got absolutely soaked and cold all Wednesday and temporarily fell out of love with my job. Still, chin up.
It was awful wasn’t it Tim! I didn’t go out on Wednesday but did on Thursday and that was bad enough, finding pretty frustrating, got behind due to the cold weather and flu and now having this rain, still nothings growing well yet 👍
I toyed with photos of a blue hyacinth and the forsythia today too. Decided that geraniums aren’t really up to much yet. So great minds do think alike! Here the rain isn’t bad enough to force me under cover – the waterproofs would do the trick – but the ground is so waterlogged that I daren’t step off a path. Still, means I can sit in the study with coffee on tap and read this week’s sixes. I agree with Anne Wareham at The Veddw that kids ought to be pretty high up on the list of garden pests 😉
Smashing tulip bud you have there. Your forsythia comments have me thinking about this monster growing at the end of my garden. Hasn’t been pruned this century, quite possibly & is hanging over the terrace. I hadn’t thought what the birds might make of the thing, so will have to consider who’s hanging out there. Having said that, yours looks nice & bushy, properly pruned, whereas mine’s a bit leggy, so perhaps the birds would appreciate a bit of a trim for better coverage. Has to be a community decision, you know.

That is a lovely hyacinth! Now you say it, I do remember roses being far ahead last year. We didn’t have any rain over spring at all, either – I remember having to water new plants. Not so this year! I love geranium foliage too.

Another interesting six Thomas, thank you. The geranium looks good, and i understand your attitude to the forsythia. I think they are underated – they can look amazing at this time of year but pretty plain the rest of the time. I think we all spend 11 months deliberating over getting rid of them, – and then it flowers! Mine is tucked out of the way in a spot that doesnt affect anything else, it’s just nice to come round the corner and see its colour in spring.

I have done the same looking back over last year’s blog and things were so much further advanced – many of the tulips were out and this year so far none. The colour of your hyacinth is fab though. Bring on the warmer weather!

I like all your plants featured – especially always good to see a geranium – my favourite plants. And really forsythia is such a doer it’s hard to dislike. Mine is pretty much the only splash of colour at the moment.
