Six on Saturday, 16th of June, 2018

Ahh back to Saturday once more, it’s been a busy week to say the least and lead to not a lot of time spent in my own garden but that’s the delights for the time of the year, plants and ideas are there, just need to be added to the garden! I would do it this morning but off to work again this morning but at least I have fathers days off only thing that’s worrying me is the lack of rain, both my front and back gardens are looking a little tired already, even though I am watering young plants and recent planting’s, I won’t water the established plants as I hope they should be big enough to look after them selves, tough love

This weeks six comes from my own little space so I hope you will enjoy my little 6

I have always had a soft spot for campanulas and it is many due to this lovely form called persicifolia and it’s a great form to grow with roses and in the front of the borders

Rosa iceberg was in the garden when we started renting it about 8yrs ago now, was a rather poor specimen and now its stunning!

Geranium palmatum is one of the half hardy hardy geraniums, confused? Well add me too that list, comes from the canary island but has been growing in mine for 4 years, could of been longer but it’s still going well. The foliage is stunning as well and evergreen!

I have a huge soft spot for moss roses and this is one of my favourites, Eugenie Guinoiseau scented with a little bit of repeat flowering

And how can anyone not love staychs Byzantina or lambs ear, these tactile plants to me are the unsung hero’s in my garden, their silver foliage does such great work in the borders and then it flowers

Cat mints are another favourite of mine (really need more space to grow all the plants I love!) this is a slightly different form called nepata nuda and is new this year

well that’s me done for this weeks six, next week I shall hopefully finished a couple of things in the garden so hopefully will showcase them but that said it’s another manic week planned but I hope you all have time to enjoy your gardens and are time out to read about others too, the memes founder has some great sixes every week so why not pop over to mr propagators and take a look

Beautiful roses and the campanula looks lovely. I’m with you on the watering but since my garden is mostly new plants it has been tough going.

I bet it has been and there’s no end in site is there, thank you I love enjoying them all in flower, makes all the work worthwhile doesn’t

  4. I know you are a rose man and your selection this week doesn’t disappoint – particularly the stunning Iceberg and that rather lovely moss rose.

A lovely six. Iceberg is often regarde as a cliche here, but I like them very much. I have two and they flower so prolifically and need very little attention.

    1. thomashort says:

Thank you Jane, they are here as well but I love the way it flowers and they are tough old plants aren they

I love seeing moss rose buds and you’ve captured the soft textures of the stachys so well (leaves and buds) I feel I can touch it.

    1. thomashort says:

Thank you, I have a thing about touchy feeling Plants, I think they a huge draw to people and it brings plants alive

I love the lambs ears too. The flowers are always such a suprise to me. For some reason I always expect them to be white. Lovely six!

    1. thomashort says:

They are kinda of odd aren’t they so small but stuck into silvery cotton wool

      1. Nat says:

        That describes them perfectly 😊

  8. I’ve not seen a white cat-mint before. Does it smell the same and, more to the point, do cats like it as much? Beautiful iceberg rose.

    1. thomashort says:

It does a little it’s not so powerful but mine is a small plant so not too sure how it will develop, I bloody well hope not 😂 given up with the main forms, destroyed in weeks by the local cats

  9. Loving that campanula and lambs ear. X

    1. thomashort says:

That are beautiful aren’t they, make great companion plants for roses too

I’m also a fan of the campanula persicifolia and the way it pops up in perfect spots. Some find it aggressive, but it suits my garden well. Yours are lovely, as are your roses.

    1. thomashort says:

Thank you March, I am hoping to get a few more different forms to add to the garden over the next year or so, so easy to control as well aren’t they

  11. A lovely mixture reminding me, us, that the good old simple reliable plants are often the best for our gardens. Suffering from no rain here in London and I’m having to chop so much to ground level to save the plants. See you next week.

    1. thomashort says:

Oh yes indeed, they suit my free draining soil perfectly and grow well with me. We are the same here in Hampshire so so so dry, I am trying not to water but I am doing more this year than other years. I hope you get some rain soon

  12. Yup that Rosa Iceberg is stunning but I particularly like that picture of the geranium.

    1. thomashort says:

Thank you 😊 it’s a great rose, I have. A huge soft spot for Geraniums

      1. Might put some new Geraniums in my new bed next year. Any recommendations welcome.

Others have been showing off this catmint too. I do not recognize it. The only catmint that I know of is a ground cover plants that does not stand very tall in bloom. It looks like cat nip, but with smaller and more grayish leaves.
