Well well good morning one and all and we are back to the weekend once more! Thankfully it’s a weekend I am seeing again, confused? Well last Saturday I did something rather silly but does show how dangerous gardening can be and how whatever you are doing, you need to think about it at all times, what did I do? Well I was replacing a fence at the in laws, which involved using a 6ft solid iron bar that weights about 25kgs and is about 11/2″ thick to help lever out lumps of concrete. Normally I am good with it pulling it down to either side of me, this time I pulled it towards me, for some reason I pulled it towards me, it came free of the concrete and smacked me on the head with some force, lucky for me I escaped with just concussion but it really could of been a lot lot worse! It did take me up to yesterday to feel back to normal, just left with a lump and a slight dip in my skull. It just shows that gardening isn’t just a carefree hobby or Job but one that in milliseconds, can turn into one that can have life changing repercussions, so be safe this week in the garden
Anyway enough of the be careful stuff and onto the the plants
One of my first salvias to flower and one of my favourites, I love the dark rich flowers offset with the dark flower stems on Salvia Bordeaux, one of two bargain rescues at £3 last year
Rosa falstaff and me have some history which sadly I can’t say in public but never less she is a stunner and one of the best Austin roses I think!
My clematis last year were crap to put it lightly, first year after planting and they were mildewed rubbish, this year is another matter and Rosalyn is the first one to flower for me
And she is growing though one of my last roses to flower, the rare blushing lucy, this once flowering rambler is Just starting to open now
This Geranium is a total stunner! But also a total pain in the backside to over winter, it the 4th time I have tried to grow geranium joy and you can see why I want too, let’s hope I am lucky this time
Let’s finish with another geranium, this ones called brook side and is a great geranium, flowers all summer long and so easy to grow and look after
That’s my six for the week, I hope you enjoyed them and don’t forget to pop over to the memes host, the wonderful, the king of the cuttings himself, The propagator!
Glad you are feeling better, that must have given you an awful fright as well as the headache. No help now but many years ago, my youngest reckoned that everything was cured with a plaster – or rather a “plathster”……. headache, stomach ache, toothache etc. Anyway, your Six-on-Saturday is up to your usual high standard – I do like that salvia. Be careful!!
Thank you, lol I was frustrated with myself for doing something so silly as well
I’m running out of room for Clematis but Rosalyn looks highly desirable. I gave up on Geranium Joy. She didn’t have the staying power and neither did I.
Glad it’s not just me with Joy, she is rather delicate isn’t she, thinking about maybe keeping her in a pot and see what happens
Nice Six, I liked picture #4 with these roses and the sun’s rays … I’m glad you feel better and back this Saturday. An accident can happen quickly, fortunately no other damage for you …
Cheers Fred 😀
We have one of those bars which attacked you. I will remember your experience the next time I use it and be very careful.
Lol yes please, and just remember to go either side of your body and not too you, I don’t think I shall do that in a hurry again
Oh, go on, tell us the Falstaff story! Sorry to hear about your head! X
Lol I wish I could Ali but I can’t not in writing anyway 😉
I love how plants in the garden get better and better – the first couple of years can sometimes be a disappointment but when they get their roots down and start to romp it’s worth the wait.
It’s wonderful isn’t, they sit and sulk sometimes for years and then boom off they go
Glad you have recovered! Those cheery blooms, especially Rosalyn, must be helping.
Oh yes indeed, every morning when I go outside and see al the flowers, always cheers me up
If I could grow clematis like that, I would. It is something of a joke here. We see them in nurseries, but not in landscapes. We know that people purchase them because the nurseries keep bringing them in, but they just do not survive for long. Those that do not sell right away in nurseries deteriorate rather quickly through summer.
That’s a shame but I bet you have some other climbers that do a lot better with you than they do here
Bougainvillea, although not a climber, more than compensates I suppose. Yes, I would not want to be without bougainvillea.
Lovely geranium – I am looking for a new purple one to plant in the autumn and think it is between Brookside and Roxanne.
I am also wishing I had some clematis – yours are stunning – but not sure I should plant anything in this drought!
That’s a tough call, Both cracking Plants, no it’s not really worth it unless you can water loads, ends up being hard work just keeping up with the watering in the end doesn’t
Ps – glad you are recovering. Sounds like a scary accident!
I was scatting out a tree stump with my own 6ft bar this morning, the thought of banging myself on the head with it is not one I care to dwell on. Love that clematis, the colour combined with a tousled look, very fetching.
Cheers Jim, nah I wouldn’t advise it fella, one hell of a weight those bars aren’t they,
bad news when the happy aftermath of an accident is a slight dip in the skull! Sounds nasty. My cheapo clematis (bought for £1 or £2 each in a sale last year) are doing much better this year. Next year should be even better…
Glad you are ok now, saw that you’d hurt yourself. Who would have thought gardening could be so dangerous? Blimey.
Lovely 6 as ever. Loving that geranium.
Thank you Sophie, lol it’s a dangerous game this gardening
